How to Restrict Email Domains in an Institution

Updated on

Before following this process, you must confirm with the instructor or institution admin verbally or through email that they want to restrict student registration to the institution's domain.

This feature:

  • Locks students into only using their institution-supplied email address while enrolling through the Enrollment link.
  • Helps prevent students from creating duplicate accounts.
  • Ensures that grades are moved over appropriately if LTI is in use.

1. Select the Institution in the HOL Cloud Dashboard.

2. Select "Edit Institution."

3. Scroll down to the Institution Domains section.

4. Check the "Restrict Domains" box and enter all domains the institution wants to allow.

This must match the email domain(s) that students will use to register for the course. While the domain is usually what is used for institution email, do not include the @ symbol. You can include multiple domains with a comma and space between each.

5. Click Save.
