The way grades are displayed in the Gradebook can look strange if you analyze the shown numbers. If an instructor asks about this, assure them that the grades are being calculated correctly behind the scenes, but the rounding that Cloud does when displaying points on the Gradebook dashboard can appear to be slightly off.
The gradebook shows a percentage and a total point score. When calculating the actual score for both, Cloud uses the full, non-rounded decimal score for each question. However, to make for a cleaner display, the program rounds the displayed total point score to the nearest tenth of a point, which occasionally results in discrepancies like this one.
For example, if the student's actual score for a question was 13.75 divided by 24 points in the lesson, we have a total of 0.572916666666667, with 57.3% being displayed in the gradebook total column. However, the display for total points is restricted/rounded to a tenth of a point, which means that rather than displaying 13.75, it displayed 13.8, creating a perceived discrepancy in score.
However, this discrepancy does not compound; a lesson's total grade is calculated using the precise percentage scores before rounding.
