What to do if an instructor used their email to make a student account

Updated on

Cloud will not allow an email address to be used as both an instructor and a student. If an instructor has enrolled themselves as a student in their course to test or preview features, they cannot also have that email registered as the instructor for the course.

This issue is the common reason that Cloud will not save the instructor or the instructor cannot be added to the course.

1. DO NOT select the "Remove" button in the Students list.

This button will only remove line item from the course list but does not release the email registration. In this instance, our software developer would need to get involved to resolve the issue.

2. Contact the Product Manager or Platform Support Specialist by email.

Include the following information:

  • Description of the issue ("The instructor enrolled as a student")
  • Institution name
  • Instructor name
  • Instructor email address

If an instructor would like to get a "student's-eye-view" of the course, suggest that they use a different personal email address or, in the case of courses that are not locked to the institution's domain, a dummy email address from a free email provider.
