How do I find the instance URL?

Updated on

When troubleshooting an issue for a student or instructor, the support team will need to be able to identify the instance that the user is in by its URL so that the problem can be researched and explored. This is not the enrollment URL that is supplied to students. The instance URL allows us to navigate directly into an instance on the backend and is not the link you provide to students or instructors to enroll into a section.

Here is how to find the instance URL.

1. In the Institution Overview page, select the SKU listed for the course.

2. When the Edit Course page appears, find the URL in the navigation bar of your browser

The instance URL is the URL your browser shows only on the Edit Course page. Other URLs inside the course will not work for other users. Do not provide the URL that your browser displays while impersonating a student or instructor.

3. Supply this URL to the support team

Remember that this URL, not the enrollment URL, is what allows the support team to easily find the course in Cloud. The enrollment URL was designed to allow students to enroll in their classes and has very limited use in standard troubleshooting situations.

We need this:

Not this:

If you click on the link you copied and are taken to the “Edit Course” page (shown above) for the instance you are referring to, then you used the right link! If you are taken anywhere else, you did not copy the right URL.
