In the SI Lab Portal, each SKU will have a master course that will be maintained by the SI curriculum development team. Under the master course, each institution will have its own master course (called an institutional master course).
The institutional master course should not have student activity in it. It can be used for any customizations that must be populated across all sections of a course, and should be used to create all future course instances.
1. Log in to the SI Lab Portal.
SI Portal courses are hosted at sig-prod.mobius.cloud. Your user login will be your SI email.
2. Select "Class List" from the "Class Manager" drop down.
Navigate to the "Class Manager" drop down in the upper right hand of the page. From the drop down menu, select "List Class."
3. Use CTRL+F or CMD+F to search for the course SKU.
The list of master courses will display all active master and child courses in the SI Portal. The quickest way to find your course is to search by the course SKU.
5. Select "Add Child Course" to begin creation of the institutional master course.
Under "Class Details," select "Add Child Course."
6. Set the instructor for the Institutional Master Course.
Upon creating the institutional master course, the instructor will default to the course creator. Select "Change Instructor" and perform a search for the instructor to update the instructor field.
Review the How to Change a Course Instructor for more information on how to change an instructor in Mobius.
The institutional master course should NOT be used for a live class/for student enrollments. This is the source for all subsequent clones made for a particular school.
If there is a single faculty member or a lead faculty member, assign them ownership of this course. This course can be used for customizations so that all future courses contain the required customizations.
If there are multiple faculty members but no "lead," assign ownership of this course to [email protected]. This will prevent instructors' customizations from going into other faculty's courses.
7. Set the CourseID, Class Name, and Class Short Name for the course.
The Course ID and Class Name should always be the same. It should follow the pattern "Institution ID #, Institution Full Name, SKU #." For example, for Endicott College Forensics, the Course ID/Class Name would be: C3001878, Endicott College, SI-10776-FS.
The Course Short Name should follow the pattern "Institution Full Name + Course ID Number." For the above example, this would be Endicott College, CHE230.
8. Set the self-enrollment, student license requirements, and default role.
Under "Who can self enroll," select students with class link.
Select the checkbox to require student license. This should be selected in all courses unless there is no paywall requirement for a school.
In the "Default Role in Class" dropdown, select "Student."
9. Create the Institutional Master Course by selecting the blue "Submit" button at the bottom of the page.
For institutional master courses, start/end dates are not required. These courses should remain open for the duration of the time the school is using Science Interactive.
