SI LTI Best Practices

Updated on

Every instructor using HOL content to teach needs to have their own user account in Cloud.

Remember to check all new instances and institutions when they get created.

Ensure compliance with standards and that all options are set correctly. This includes checking "Enable Grading," making sure courses with SKUs beginning in SP-XXXX are marked "Standard" while all others are marked "Premium," and that any other needs and requests are fulfilled.

In the second case, relate the stipulation that they inform their students that the link is only for ordering, not completing lab content ahead of schedule.

In the case of grade transfer issues:

  1. Ensure "Enable Grading" is checked in the course instance.
  2. Ensure the instructor has reviewed the troubleshooting article.
  3. Review the internal troubleshooting article.

Remember that anything in the HOL Instructor help pages can be made available to Instructors. Content in the Science Interactive Group knowledgebase (sig.screenstepslive.com) is for INTERNAL USE ONLY.

Use the ticketing system for LTI integration questions that are not resolved with current troubleshooting information.

Use the form here to submit a ticket to the LTI expert. Do not email them directly. Be sure to include as much detail as possible in the ticket.

Ensure you are using the most current resources.

Documents and templates should be regularly checked on the ESL/HOL SharePoint folder.

SIG Internal Knowledgebase articles should always be current sources of information. If you find discrepancies, contact your supervisor.

Ensure the Institution's User Roles are set correctly.

  • Institution Admin: The Institution Admin role designates an individual as the Institution's HOL Cloud administrator. Institution Admins should be an IT or Instructional Design expert. To maintain consistency each Institution should assign one person as the admin. Additionally, Institution Admins are unable to be assigned as Instructors for courses.
  • Instructor: The Instructor Role is able to view and edit any course linked to their email. This role cannot see or edit anything on the Institution Dashboard. When logged in, the instructor will see the screen with all of their courses.
  • Instructor Admin: In the absence of an Institution Admin, an Instructor can be designated as an Instructor Admin who will have the same Admin privileges as well as the ability to teach courses.
