This process pertains only to Purchasing requests to secure materials that deviate from Spec Sheets. If Science is initiating a materials change, follow these instructions.
This process would be used when the Purchasing department identifies a need to change materials used in kits. This might happen when a cheaper material can be sourced, when a material is no longer available, or when a temporary shortage occurs in the warehouse.
1. Contact Science with specs of new material or item.
2. Science determines if sample is required for testing. If so, provide sample.
Science will test the materials in question if required. They will then accept or reject the request and report the result to Operations.
3. If accepted, Science amends existing spec sheet on Sharepoint and notifies Purchasing when complete.
If rejected, no further action required. Purchasing continues to procure material to original spec or finds a new item to begin this process again.
