How Data Transfers Work
- Data is transferred between courses by manipulating the back-end databases. These databases were not built with this operation in mind.
- This is not a copy/paste action, nor can it be undone.
- Data transfers are not data merges. The data being transferred will completely overwrite any data from the lessons already existing in the course.
- Data transfers cannot target individual lessons. All of the work in one course will replace all progress in another.
Policies
- Data transfers should always be a last resort. Data transfers require manipulation of the database in Cloud, and are therefore ALWAYS high-risk tasks.
- Fully understand the nature of the issue before requesting a data transfer. Ask the instructor clarifying questions to get to the root cause of the problem; it's possible that other, less risky, solutions are available.
- Include a complete explanation of the situation in your data transfer request.
- Data will not be transferred between accounts in the same section. Data transfers are only ever needed from one section to another.
- Transfers are not necessary and will not be performed for individual students who have not completed any work in the original section.
