Packing Standards

Updated on

There are several factors involved in assembling quality kits for our consumers; outward labeling, proper item identification, correct package contents, general tidiness, and resilience in transport.

PAPERWORK

The floor and chemical travelers should immediately be signed by pick/pack/QC team member in designate 'QC' and 'packed by' spaces, and should stay with the order until QC team member turns them in.

All loose papers and forms should be grouped together, not loose all over kit. Fold content in half and place all papers inside. (ex; student content, safety forms, general instruction booklets, paper filters, graph paper, etc.)

BAGGING

All small parts should be bagged together. (Ex; nuts, bolts, screws, paperclips, etc.)

All bagged items should be bagged together. (Ex; powdered chemicals, cheesecloth, test strips, etc.)

All medium sized items should be bagged together. (Ex; 100ct pony beads, plastic eggs, thermometers, 150 kidney/pinto beans, stir sticks, etc.)

If necessary, create a bottom of box bag for items like the metal inoculation loop and bamboo skewers as these items could get lost easily.

LABELING

Kit labels should always be on indicated spaces.

Labels should be on BEFORE QC occurs. (QC needs to ensure that latex, refrigerate, dissection warning, inspection labels, and access codes are in place.)

General- prop65 warning on penicillin, IKI must be labeled, Refrigerate on bubbled cold room test tubes, description labels on loose rocks, S bag labels with bag contents listed.

TAKE EXTRA CARE

Bubble petris and pack with care. Petris are extremely fragile, do not pack them too tightly or they will crack.

All glass items should be bubble wrapped, labeled if necessary, and placed in designated area. If bubble wrap is not possible for the item, pack with extra care. Do not wedge glass items against metal.

600ml glass beaker should be inside of chamber pack and chembox and placed in designated area.

Dissection trays must be bubble wrapped with letter.

Ramps and folders should be at the very bottom of the box.

Slides must be bagged.

Do not put cleaning brushes in cylinders.

Ring stand and rod must always be at the bottom of the box.

CLOSING

Make sure there is enough packaging and void fill that items cannot shift in the box. (Close and shake the kit. If anything moves, add more void fill.)

Affix all required stickers

Sleeve and strap

GENERAL PROCEDURE

Initial paperwork in designated areas.

Before building, QC all items to ensure they are correct and accounted for. (Helpers should be setting up boxes for the build.)

Build text box for larger runs.

Check items off the list as they are added to the box, not before or at the end.

Label and paper boxes before calling for a QC.

Close, sleeve, and strap.
