SKU Assignment - CRM

Updated on

The Generate SKU process is used when a kit is ready to be adopted in CRM. Clicking the Generate SKU button creates the kit SKU before the adoption form is sent to the customer, so the SKU can be included on both the adoption form and the quote.

Note: A SKU should only be generated when the kit configuration is finalized, and the adoption form is ready to be delivered to the customer. Generating it earlier can result in incorrect identifiers appearing on customer-facing documents.

The SKU generated by this process should follow the syntax below and a set of company-defined rules for the prefix and number series.

1. Open the opportunity in CRM and navigate to the Adoption Form tab.

2. Verify that the following required fields are populated:

a. Brand / Business Unit
b. Subject / Discipline
c. Product Type

If any of these fields are missing or incorrect, the Generate SKU button will return an error or produce an incomplete SKU. Confirm all three fields before proceeding.

3. Click Generate SKU in the top ribbon of the Opportunity

The system will compose the SKU from the populated Brand / Business Unit, Subject / Discipline, and Product Type fields and write the result to the Kit Number field on the opportunity.

4. Verify the SKU appears in the Kit Number field on the opportunity

If the field remains empty, recheck the required fields under Before You Begin. If all fields are populated and the SKU still does not generate, contact the website admin — SKU generation settings can only be managed by the admin.

5. Save the Opportunity record.
